WELCOME TO THE CMPD EDUCATION FOUNDATION'S MPD INFO

Myeloproliferative disorders(MPD) are relatively rare chronic hematologic malignancies that include the classic myeloproliferative disorders:

Philadelphia chromosome-negative        Philadelphia chromosome-positive
Essential Thrombocythemia (ET)                Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML)
   Myelofibrosis (MF)
   Polycythemia Vera (PV

There are atypical myeloproliferative disorders which include molecularly defined PDGFRA-rearranged eosinophilic/mast cell disorders; PDGFRB-rearranged eosinophilic disorders; systemic mastocytosis associated with c-kit mutation; 8p11 Myeloproliferative syndrome; and juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia with recurrent mutations of RAS. MPD also includes the clinicopathologically assigned variants: chronic neutrophilic leukemia; chronic eosinophilic leukemia; hypereosinophillic syndrome, chronic basophilic leukemia, chronic monomyelomonocytic leukemia, systemic mastocytosis; and unclassified myeloproliferative disorder. Chronic myeloid disorders also include myelodysplastic syndrome.

Dr. Ruben Mesa is Tri-ing for an MPD Cure

Tri-ing for an MPD Cure
Dr. Ruben Mesa is a hematologist and MPD researcher, who along with Dr. Ayalew Tefferi at the Mayo Clinic, has worked for over 17 years with MPD patients. Both are dedicated to improving treatment options for MPD patients. After observing the struggles endured by MPD patients, Dr. Mesa underwent a personal transformation and lost 130 extra pounds through exercise and diet. On September 7, 2008, Dr. Mesa will race in the ultimate amateur endurance challenge, the Ironman Wisconsin Triathlon (2.4 miles swimming, 112 miles cycling, 26.2 miles running) with a goal of raising $100,000 for MPD research and education, and to raise MPD awareness.

Please join Dr. Mesa in Tri-ing for an MPD cure by donating today.
